Chin Augmentation
Medical Term : Genioplasty
This is a surgical procedure to enhance the size of the chin, thus bringing the chin shape in harmony with other facial features especially the lips and nose.
Benefits:
  • Increases chin size
  • Brings shape in harmony with rest of the face
  • Permanent way to create a stronger chin
  • Makes the chin wider
  • Slight lengthening of the face
Candidacy:
  • People with weak or receding chins (microgenia), but who have a normal dental bite.
  • If you are unhappy with the way your chin looks, either because of genetics or perhaps because you received a facial trauma at some point, Chin Implant can give your face and neck a more balanced look and helps to eliminate a weak, asymmetrical appearance.

Procedure:

Treatment Options:
Augmentation using Chin Implant: Commonest, less involved option. Implants of multiple shapes, sizes, and materials are available, and are chosen depending on the changes desired.

Augmentation Genioplasty: Surgical procedure in which we split the chin bone (mandible) at the correct point and move & position it forward to the desired point. This bone is fixed in its new position by a system of plates and screws.

Both these procedures are done at our Centre by the intra-oral route i.e. through an incision made inside your mouth between the lower lip and gum, thus leaving no tell-tale signs externally.

Augmentation with Autologous(ones own) Fat as a filler: This technique uses fat as fillers to enhance the chin region.

  • Anesthesia: It can be performed under General or local anesthesia, depending on the procedure.
  • Duration of procedure: It takes about 1 hour, though can take up to 3 hours if other procedures are also carried out at the same time.

Inpatient/Outpatient procedure:
It is an Outpatient procedure that is the patient can go home the same day.
Recovery:
  • You will be required to wear a protective covering over your chin for two to four days.
  • You will experience some bruising and swelling around your chin and neck, and a relatively small amount of pain.
  • Also avoid any activities that require you to wear a helmet or chin-strap for the same period of time.
  • Stitches placed in the mouth will dissolve in ten days to two weeks.
  • Avoid contact sports and any activity which might cause an impact to your face for three or four weeks.
  • Back to work : 1 -2 weeks
  • Back to the gym : 2 weeks.
Duration of Results:
